Stage 2 – Main Written Examination

The Main Examination consists of two papers, each carrying 300 marks and having a duration of two hours.

Each paper has two sections of 150 marks each. The questions are objective type. Unattempted questions do not attract negative marks.

The Physical Efficiency Test (PPT) is compulsory for all candidates called for the relevant stage.

It carries 100 marks:

Candidates must secure at least:

• 30 marks for non-technical posts

Candidates meeting the required PPT marks and document eligibility are called for the 50-mark Personality Interview.

PPT Standards – Non-Technical Posts

For men, the notification provides a 0–40 scoring scale for the 800-metre race and 0–30 scales for long jump and shot put. For example, 40 marks in the 800-metre race correspond to 124.2 seconds or less, while long jump above 5.57 metres and shot put above 8.76 metres receive the maximum 30 marks.

For women, 40 marks in the 800-metre race correspond to 176.0 seconds or less, while long jump above 4.36 metres and shot put above 7.20 metres receive the maximum 30 marks.

Relaxed Standards

The rule book separately provides relaxed physical performance standards for ex-servicemen and technical posts (Arms/Photo/Q.D./Finger Print). The men’s table uses a 7.26 kg shot put, while the women’s table uses a 4.00 kg shot put.

Physical Measurement & Medical Standards

Before appointment, candidates must meet the prescribed physical and medical standards.

There is no relaxation in the minimum prescribed physical measurements.

The medical requirements also include prescribed unaided eyesight standards, colour vision, absence of knock-knee and flat-foot conditions, and overall medical fitness.

Interview

The Personality Interview carries 50 marks.

Only candidates who:

1. qualify in the Main Examination,

2. satisfy document requirements, and

3. obtain the prescribed minimum PPT marks

are called for the interview.

Salary / Pay Scale

The notification specifies Level 9: ₹36,200–₹1,14,800 for Subedar and the listed Sub Inspector cadres.

During the first three years after appointment, the rule book states that stipend is payable at 70% in the first year, 80% in the second year and 90% in the third year of the minimum pay, along with other allowances and benefits approved by the Government from time to time. The notification also mentions the defined contribution pension system applicable to employees appointed on or after 01 January 2005.
